FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Editor’s Note: Images, Information & Product Samples are available upon request Dr. George Washington Carver Would Be Proud! Entrepreneur Continues Carver’s Work Fairfield, CT – Feb. 12, 2007 Wiley Mullins, an entrepreneur and founder of Uncle Wiley’s, Inc., a marketer of blended spices and seasonings hopes to pick-up where Dr. George Washington Carver left off. Like Carver, he educates and introduces audiences to the nutritional and wellness power of fresh produce department. He often comments, “Wellness Is Within Reach! We pass by it on every occasion to the supermarket.” When Dr. Carver was contacted by Booker T. Washington to join the faculty of Tuskegee Institute in Alabama 110 years ago, he probably never imagined that the meaning and purpose of his work would continue well into the next century. Carver educated post civil war southern farmers on the importance of crop rotation to improve the quality of farmland that had been repeatedly abused by growing the same crops (tobacco and cotton) year after year. He’s solely responsible for changing the southern U.S. from becoming a one or two crop region, to being multi-crop farmlands, with farmers growing a variety of crops that could be used for a number of different uses. Most notably, Carver extensively studied the peanut and the sweet potato and created multiple uses and purposes for these products. Understanding plants, their unique characteristics, and what they offer mankind was Dr. Carver’s motivation. He wanted everyone to know and understand the nutritional benefits that fresh produce offers. Similar to Carver’s goal of encouraging the cultivation and planting of various farm crops, Mullins encourages consumers to broaden their consumption of fresh produce beyond just a few items like potatoes and lettuce. “Discover the hundreds of different colored vegetables that are available. They offer abundance in wellness and nutritional benefits that aren’t found in other foods. Avoid foods that are processed and highly refined, especially those that contain too much fat. They are heavily concentrated with calories and saturated fats which can lead to obesity, heart disease, cancer and hypertension.” According to Mullins, “fruits and vegetables are the best source of vitamins, minerals and fiber the body needs to stay well. Vitamin capsules and pills do not offer the disease-fighting protection that you get from eating whole fruits and vegetables.” Wiley hopes that his line of products will help people to consume fresh produce. The Wiley’s line of products allows consumers to enjoy authentic down-home taste without the calories, fat and cholesterol. The 13-item includes favorites like Wiley’s Greens Seasoning, Wiley’s Sweet Potato & Yam Spice and Wiley’s Corn Boil.
