PINEAPPLES are native to South America. They were brought to Hawaii in the 1700?s. To determine if a fresh pineapple is fully ripened, simply pull any leaf from the stem. If the leaf is easily removable, the pineapple is ripe. After a pineapple is picked the fruit will not gain any sweetness regardless of how long the fruit is allowed to soften. |
